Navigating the FVT/GE Timeline

Sep 3, 2025 | Compliance, Financial Aid Services, FVT/GE

The Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) deadlines are fast approaching. The first reporting period is due September 30, 2025. The second reporting period is due the following day, on October 1, 2025. No further extensions are expected. With these critical deadlines looming, it’s essential that you understand the timeline and requirements. Fortunately, the National Student Clearinghouse can support you through this fall’s reporting cycles and beyond.

Understanding the FVT/GE Timeline

The FVT/GE reporting process involves two concurrent cycles:

  1. 2024 Reporting Cycle (Initial Cycle): This cycle includes three components — the Completers List, the Student Level Report, and the Program Level Report. The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) generates your Completers List, which is provided to your institution to review and update. All reporting for the initial cycle is due by September 30, 2025.
  2. 2025 Reporting Cycle (Second Cycle or 2024-2025 Reporting Cycle): In most instances, this cycle focuses on the most recently completed award year. NSLDS distributes the Completers List after the first cycle’s due date. Your institution has 60 days to respond. The Student and Program Level Reports are due October 1, 2025.

The Challenge of Concurrent Reporting

The overlapping reporting cycles create added complexity. Your institution may be working on the initial cycle due September 30th while preparing for the second cycle that is due the next day, October 1st. In addition, your Completers List is due 60 days after you receive it from NSLDS.

Plus, you may also need to coordinate the involvement of multiple offices across your campus (e.g., registrar, financial aid, institutional research, and IT). You must plan carefully in order to coordinate your FVT/GE reporting and meet this fall’s deadlines.

FVT/GE Reporting Made Simple

The Clearinghouse offers a comprehensive and user-friendly solution to help you navigate the FVT/GE reporting process and timeline. From the initial Completers List to the final submission, our solution walks you through each step.

We start by incorporating student data that you previously reported to us. This enables us to identify the exact students you should report to NSLDS for the cohort you selected. You just add and upload any outstanding FVT/GE program data and the financial aid and institutional cost information.

Our solution also builds your student and program level files for you, and presents errors to you for review and correction. Matt North, Executive Director, and Angela Chirumbolo, Associate Director, Institutional Research and Planning at Duquesne University, found that “the reporting tools were well presented in an intuitive and user-friendly manner … it was clear for the user to see in the dashboard exactly what they had accomplished, as well as the steps that were still needed.”

Finally, we automatically validate all your data to meet the requirements. This ensures NSLDS accepts your data the first time — no rejections! It also enables your institution to get credit for all your eligible graduates. As a result, your debt-to-earnings metrics will be more accurate.

Support When You Need It

The Clearinghouse provides live support to onboard your users and show them how to report your data, so it meets NSLDS requirements. When questions arise, our Compliance & Data Operations team is available to help. “The Clearinghouse staff graciously answered my many questions in a very timely manner and helped guide our institution though the tangled web of which students should or should not be included in reporting,” said Virginia Estes, the Coordinator of Institutional Research at Lee University,
