High School Diploma Verifications Projected to Rise as Fewer Students Earn Degrees
High Schools & Districts Can Automate Their Diploma Verifications with DiplomaVerify
According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, fewer students earned associate degrees this year than in any of the past 10 years, and bachelor’s degree completions fell to their lowest level since 2015-16. With fewer students each year earning associate and bachelor’s degrees, high school diploma verifications are likely to become more important than ever in the hiring process. DiplomaVerify can help educators keep up with the demand for diploma verifications.
DiplomaVerify enables high schools and districts to outsource all their diploma verifications to the National Student Clearinghouse. Not only does this save valuable staff time, but it also enables diplomas to be immediately verified 24/7 so their graduates can qualify for jobs faster. Because it’s a free add-on to our StudentTracker for High Schools, DiplomaVerify uses the same data reported to us for StudentTracker, so there’s no there’s no additional work to get started.
Given current trends in higher education, DiplomaVerify will be an increasingly cost- and time-saving resource for both the schools providing verifications and the employers doing the hiring.
- For high schools and districts, as employers and background screeners seek to verify candidates’ highest level of education, school administrators may face a growing number of diploma verification requests — adding to their workload.
- For employers, roles that once required undergraduate degrees may increasingly be filled by candidates whose highest educational attainment is a high school diploma.
StudentTracker for High Schools users can sign up for DiplomaVerify at no cost. The more student records schools submit to the Clearinghouse, the fewer manual verification requests staff need to handle. This not only eases administrative workloads but also helps graduates secure jobs faster. Without outside assistance, high schools and districts can take up to two weeks to verify a diploma, sometimes even longer if a school or district is understaffed.
Once a high school or district begins using the Clearinghouse for verifications, it can post a notice on its website directing background screeners, students, and other requestors to diplomaverify.org for verifications covered by its Clearinghouse submissions. It’s that easy!
Participating in both StudentTracker and DiplomaVerify is the best way for schools and districts to maximize the value of their student data — for themselves and their students. Contact diplomaverify@studentclearinghouse.org to learn how to get started.
