Why might some fields be blank in the detail file? If there are blank fields in a student's record in the detail file, then there are several reasons why this can happen. Information which was not provided to the Clearinghouse obviously will not show up in the detail file. For example, if a degree record was submitted to the Clearinghouse without a CIP code, then that CIP code information will be missing in the detail file. In some instances the Clearinghouse is not allowed to report out certain information. As an example, some schools do not consider enrollment status to be directory information and as such this information may not be included in the detail file. Additionally, we provide each institution with the same level of data that they report to the Clearinghouse. For schools participating in the DegreeVerify or DV service, they will receive degree information such as degree level, major and CIP code from other institutions when available in the detail report. Schools that do not participate in DV will not receive this granular degree data. A similar requirement exists for some optional enrollment reporting data elements.
