Transcript
Let’s discuss errors 1791 to 1796, CIP not valid for current CIP year level.

Errors 1791-1796 occur for an institution submitting 2020 CIP codes when the incoming program has an open status and is found in the student’s enrollment history, but the CIP code submitted was a 2010 CIP Code. Essentially, there’s no issue with the CIP but your school converted to a 2020 CIP year and the student was last reported with an open program status so we want you to close out the program or link it to a 2020 CIP year program.

Errors 1791-1796 can also occur for an institution submitting 2020 CIP codes when the incoming program has any status, if the program has a 2010 CIP code and was previously linked to another program in the student’s enrollment history.
If the program is already linked to another program in the student’s history, you will need to delete the program.

Error 1791 indicates that the 2010 CIP code on your submission for program 1 is not valid for the current school CIP year level, which means that the school is a 2020 school, 1792 indicates that CIP code for program 2 is not valid for the current school CIP year level, and so on.

To resolve the error, depending on why the error is occurring, you’ll want to close out the program, link it to a 2020 CIP year program, or delete it.

To resolve errors 1791 to 1796, navigate to the summary screen for the error and expand the student’s record.

If the program has been linked previously to another program, the fields will be grayed out and there will be the option to delete the program. Click delete program and then click Submit for Validation.

If the program was not linked previously, the program enrollment status and status effective date will be highlighted for you to close out the program and you will be unable to delete the program. Make your updates and click Submit for Validation.

It’s recommended for 2020 CIP schools to check your system and update as needed so you’re only reporting 2020 CIP codes.

This concludes how to correct errors 1791 to 1796. If you have questions, reach out to schoolops@studentclearinghouse.org.
