NSC SecurePrint: Your Secure, Free Print Transcript Solution
Let the Clearinghouse Handle Your Administrative Transcript Needs
By Colin Hutchison, Product Manager, National Student Clearinghouse
In November 2017, the National Student Clearinghouse launched a new product within its Transcript Services: NSC SecurePrint®. This free, print-to-mail solution allows the Clearinghouse to handle the tedious process of manually printing, compiling, and mailing transcripts, so you can solve other challenges and support students.
What Benefits does NSC SecurePrint Provide Institutions and Students?
With NSC SecurePrint, you’ll gain piece of mind knowing that your student’s information is protected throughout the entire process from uploading your PDF transcripts for the student all the way through to the point where it’s received by the intended recipient.
Furthermore, NSC SecurePrint works with any of our FAST, FASTER, and FASTEST Transcript Services, and there are no minimums for using the NSC SecurePrint service. Just like the rest of our Transcript Services.
How Does the Clearinghouse Guarantee the Security of a Transcript?
As the name implies, first and foremost, NSC SecurePrint is secure. Our printing facility is both FISMA-certified and SOC2 compliant. If you’re not familiar with those terms, FISMA-certified and SOC2 compliant facilities provide the same security as if the facility were handling corporate stock and bond certificate printing. Serious protocols are followed throughout the process to ensure that the information is handled in the most secure way.
The paper is a heavy Defensa Premium Bond 24-pound paper embedded with visible color fibers and invisible fibers that are only visible under black light. There are a number of copy and scan evident features, including an “AUTHORIZED COPY” pantograph. This means that if someone were to copy or scan a transcript, the reproduction will display “UNAUTHORIZED COPY” across the entire transcript to make it evident that someone has made an effort to reproduce or alter the transcript. In addition to that security measure, there’s a watermark on the official copy, so if someone tries to copy the transcript, the watermark won’t be evident on the unofficial title.
The print application also uses a number of security features. The liquid-based ink is applied to the fibers vs. the top of the paper, preventing anyone from altering a printed document by scraping ink off the top of the paper. The ink is also reactive to a number of solvents, including bleaches, oxidizers, acids and bases, etc. Last but not least, the mailing of the transcript is secured. Once everything is compiled, the transcript and enclosures, if any, are mailed in a tamper-evident envelope. If someone were to try and open the envelope to change the documents inside, it would be evident and the flap would tear during the process. Transcripts are produced and mailed Monday through Saturday, with a number of shipping options from standard first-class mail to express shipping options using USPS and FedEx.
