Clearinghouse Staff Helps Colleges in the Southeast Make Better Decisions

Our Clearinghouse Connections series offers you a more intimate look at the National Student Clearinghouse by introducing you to our people and the work they do. Today, meet Paul Taylor, who helps colleges sign up with Clearinghouse services.

Paul Taylor spends many of his working hours traveling. Paul, who joined the Clearinghouse 11 years ago, manages client relationships in the Southeast (Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia) alongside Client Management Manager Laura Reichenbach. One of eight Regional Directors at the National Student Clearinghouse, he regularly meets with colleges and universities across the country and represents the organization at industry events.

When asked what the regional directors do, Paul explains, “We do a little bit of everything. Most would consider us the relationship managers with a college. If there is a significant problem or concern, we would be called on to help find a solution.”

When a school is interested in activating a new service, the regional director explains how the service works and its value to the school, collects the agreement, and guides the school into implementation.

“As the schools’ trusted partner, we are all working to help schools find innovative solutions, or to solve a problem that they are having,” says Paul. “My work is very rewarding, especially when I talk with a school that has implemented a service we suggested or discussed, and they tell us how much it has helped them in their daily routine, often saving them not only time but also money in the process. Looking for those creative solutions and helping schools make good decisions is very rewarding.”

When it comes to the needs of today’s higher education administrators, Paul has some insider knowledge – his wife, Kim Taylor, is the Associate Registrar at the University of Texas at Austin.

“I think most people at the Clearinghouse have some idea that I am interested in and committed to higher education,” says Paul. “Some may not know how that has affected my family. Kim and I have five children between us. Of those five kids, all have bachelor’s degrees, and one has a master’s degree. My oldest granddaughter is a junior at Western Kentucky University and my youngest granddaughter will continue the tradition as a third generation Taylor at the University of Kentucky this fall.”
